The lights are shining, the pitch is looking like a fresh cut carpet, the players make their way out onto the field, the crowd is buzzing... thats when you know its match day.
Welcome to The Traveling Supporter.
You might all be wondering what this blog is all about. Well, its quite simple. This blog is for anybody who loves football, plain and simple. Its for anybody who dreams of being on the pitch and also in the stands for some of the biggest matches world football has to offer. And I'm not talking about the World Cup but more so about club football - my real passion as all three of my countries are shiate (Canada, Uganda and India). In short, this blog is for anybody who loves to watch good quality football from any corner of the globe. Its for the global fan and for the type of supporter who enjoys not only going to watch their local club week in, week out both home and away but also for the supporter who just loves going to see what football has to offer on a global stage for the millions of supporters following their own teams.
Now don't get me wrong, I am a one club man and that club is Arsenal Football Club - the greatest club the world has ever seen. The famous Red and White army and yes I'm already preparing myself for the banter that lays ahead from those supporters who will chat on about how long it has been since we have won a trophy, more particularly the Premier League. Well, at least we aren't Liverpool (or Tottenham ha!) when it comes to the modern era of the Premier League - yes we have not won a Champions League but that will come in time (hopefully before I die).
Growing up, all I have wanted to do was be around football and make it my life even when I knew my dream of being a pro was definitely not a possibility. As I currently reside in Canada, I was able to make that happen after I created my own not-for-profit entitled the Football for the World Foundation (www.footballfortheworld.org) as well as starting my own football development program in Kitchener-Waterloo in Ontario by the name of FFTW Development (www.fftwdevelopment.com). But I guess when you're a footy fanatic, it never stops and here I have it, another pass time in The Traveling Supporter.
But back to business.
The Traveling Supporter will showcase football matches throughout the world but for our current purposes, focus mainly in Europe and North America. From time to time, we may throw in a match which you may not expect but be sure to be ready to experience and find out some of the most interesting as well as some of the most useful information you need to know to travel to some of the most famous as well as some of the most unique grounds across the globe.
Our blog posts will cover a number of aspects of the match day experience which we ourselves will go through which include how to get your hands on tickets to matches, transport and how we make it to the matches, the stadium and its accessibility, the atmosphere from both the home and away crowds as well as the difference in price of tickets as well as where we sit and our overall fan experience. As we know it can be quite the task to find out information when trying to about getting your hands on tickets, we not only want to share our experiences with you but also make it easier for you to attend the same or similar matches across the world.
Join us on our journey as we look to visit one ground at a time across some of the most well known and maybe some of most not so well known clubs across club football.
Note: This blog will be sporadic in nature with its posts as it will be dependent on our ability to travel to matches as well as our writers across the globe who will be attending matches. If you would like to write on The Traveling Supporter if you are planning on attending a match in the near future, please reach out to me at alikhan@footballfortheworld.org.
UPCOMING MATCH POST: FEYERNOORD (HOME - De Kuip) vs. Willem II
